Biography

Igor Petrov is a guitarist, vocalist, composer, arranger, and music educator born in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He began his musical journey studying accordion at a children’s music school, later developing a deep passion for the guitar. From a young age, he performed as a guitarist and vocalist in various musical groups.

He began his professional career in 1992 as a guitarist in the Romani ensemble Monisto under the Chelyabinsk Philharmonic. From 1993 to 1995, the ensemble was based in St. Petersburg. Over the years, he performed with the rock band Epicenter, the jazz group Footprints, and the big band led by Honored Artist of Russia S. Berezhnov, as well as leading his own jazz quintet. Igor took part in numerous music projects, worked as a studio and session musician, participated in projects: Modus Vivendi by Yury Chernyshev, Play by V. Sundarev, V. Nagorny, and many others.

In 2003, he graduated from the Pop Music Department of the Chelyabinsk State Academy of Culture and Arts as a guitarist and teacher.

Since 2000, Igor has been one of the founders and the permanent leader of the group Shiko, which includes leading jazz musicians from Chelyabinsk. The group quickly gained recognition, becoming a laureate and prizewinner of numerous national and international jazz competitions and festivals, including What a Wonderful World, I Am from Jazz, Jazz Beau Monde, Musical Sary-Arka, Moscow-Yalta-Transit, and many others. Taking the fiery rhythms of Latin America as the basis of the repertoire, contemporary guitar melodies in their own unique interpretations, and original compositions, Shiko became highly sought-after and has toured extensively across Russia and internationally.

Since 2010, Igor has been the guitarist and one of the founders of the project Anfimov & Co, which performs original songs by Alexander Anfimov.

From 2018 to 2021, he lived and worked in Moscow, Russia.

Currently, the musician lives in Spain, focusing on his solo work, teaching guitar and music theory, and developing his new project Los Bicharrakos.
